HANDS-ON AI TRAINING · IN PERSON · YORKSHIRE & UK-WIDE
LAST UPDATED OCT 2026

# AI training for business teams, where everyone builds something real.

Most AI training is a lunchtime session on writing better prompts. People enjoy it, and on Monday the work looks the same. This is in-person AI training for employees where each person brings a real task from their job and builds a working tool for it, in the software you already pay for, with senior help at the desk. They learn AI the way people learn anything practical: by making something that works.

THE PROBLEM

## Why most AI training changes nothing

### It teaches the tool, not the job

A session on prompting shows what a chat window can do. It doesn't show a credit controller how her week changes when the chase list builds itself.

### Nothing gets built

People leave with ideas and no working example. Without a first build, the ideas don't survive the inbox on Monday morning.

### Here, the build is the lesson

Every attendee leaves with a tool that does part of their own job, and the confidence to build the next one. The skills stick because they were used on real work.

WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS
11%

of UK businesses say more than half their workforce has had AI training. [ONS, July 2026](https://www.ons.gov.uk/businessindustryandtrade/business/businessservices/articles/artificialintelligenceinukbusinesses/2023to2026)

21%

of UK workers feel confident using AI at work. [DSIT, January 2026](https://www.gov.uk/government/news/free-ai-training-for-all-as-government-and-industry-programme-expands-to-provide-10-million-workers-with-key-ai-skills-by-2030)

5+hrs

of training, with in-person coaching, is where regular use of AI rises sharply. A lunchtime session doesn't get there. [BCG, 2025](https://www.bcg.com/publications/2025/ai-at-work-momentum-builds-but-gaps-remain)

## Three formats

All in person, at your offices, led by Brannan with a senior builder at the desks. Fixed price per cohort, agreed before the day.
01 · BUILD DAY

### One day, one working tool each

Up to twelve people from one team or function. Each person brings a real task from their own week, and by the end of the day it runs on a tool they built themselves, inside the software the business already pays for.
1 DAY · UP TO 12 PEOPLE
You leave with: a working build per person, a one-page note on each, and the safe-use rules agreed for your business.

02 · BUILD PROGRAMME

### Four sessions, one tool into production

Four in-person sessions over six to eight weeks. The cohort picks one process that matters to the P&L, builds it together between sessions, and puts it live with an owner and a measured baseline.
6–8 WEEKS · UP TO 12 PEOPLE
You leave with: a tool in daily use, hours returned measured against the baseline, and people who can build the next one.

03 · LEADERSHIP SESSION

### The leadership team builds first

A half day for the CEO and leadership team. Everyone builds something small on their own work before anyone discusses strategy, then the session ends with a ranked list of where AI should go first in the business.
HALF DAY · LEADERSHIP TEAM
You leave with: leaders who have built with AI, and a short ranked list of what to do next.

EXAMPLES

## What people build on the day

Dull, specific and useful the next morning. These come from operations, finance, sales, HR and service teams.
→

### Supplier emails into the ERP

Delivery dates and order changes pulled out of the inbox and written into the system, with exceptions sent to a named person.

→

### First-draft quotes

A quote drafted from the job sheet, the price list and past jobs, ready for the estimator to check rather than type.

→

### Month-end commentary

Variance explanations drafted from the ledger export, so the finance team edits a draft instead of starting from a blank page.

→

### Call notes into the CRM

Meeting transcripts turned into structured CRM updates and follow-up tasks, without copy and paste.

→

### A policy and handbook assistant

Answers staff questions from your own policies and procedures, with the source shown, so HR and ops stop answering the same question twice.

→

### Support ticket triage

Incoming tickets classified, routed and given a drafted reply, with anything sensitive held back for a person.

→

### The weekly KPI pack

Numbers pulled from three systems into one pack with a written summary, every Monday, before anyone arrives.

→

### Document checks

Contracts, certificates or onboarding forms checked against a list of rules, with gaps flagged for review.

## How a build day runs

One trainer for every six people, so nobody sits stuck for long. Your laptops, your accounts, your data rules.

001

### Before the day

A short call with the sponsor, then a form for each attendee: one repetitive task from their week, with an example. We check access to the tools you already licence and agree what data is in bounds.

1–2 WEEKS BEFORE
002

### The basics, by doing

What these tools are good and bad at, how they fail, and what must never go into them, taught through short exercises on your own material rather than slides.

MORNING
003

### The build

Everyone builds their own tool, in pairs, with hands-on help at the desk. No-code first; a little code where it earns its place. Real data where it is safe, realistic samples where it is not.

AFTERNOON
004

### Show, hand over, follow up

Each person demos what they built. Every build gets an owner and a one-page note. Six weeks later we check what is still in use and what to build next.

END OF DAY + 6 WEEKS

## What the training covers

### How the tools actually work

Enough about large language models to know when to trust an answer, when to check it and when not to use AI at all.

### Building, not prompting

Prompts are a small part of it. The skill is breaking a task into steps, connecting the tools you already have and testing the result.

### Safe use and data protection

What can and cannot go into which tool under UK GDPR and your own policies, written down as rules your team agreed to.

### AI literacy you can evidence

Attendance, content and builds recorded, which helps if you sell into the EU and need to show staff AI literacy under the EU AI Act.

### Your tools, not ours

Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, plus Power Automate, Zapier, Make or n8n: we train on whatever you licence.

### Keeping it running

Owners, documentation and what to do when a build breaks, so the work survives the trainer leaving.

WHO TEACHES IT

## Taught by someone who builds this for a living

Brannan Coady co-founded and ran Netsells, a York software consultancy whose clients included Trainline, Uber and the BBC, for over a decade, then was Chief Product Officer, COO and CEO of YourParkingSpace. Today he puts AI into production inside mid-market and PE-backed companies. The training is that same work, done with your team at the keyboard.

## Questions about AI training

### What AI training do employees actually need?

Three things. Enough understanding of how the tools work to know when to trust an answer and when to check it. Clear rules on what data can go into which tool. And the practical skill of turning a task from their own job into something a tool does reliably. Most courses cover the first, some cover the second, and very few spend real time on the third, which is the one that changes how work gets done.

### Do attendees need any technical skills?

No. Build days are designed for operations, finance, sales, HR and service staff who have never written code. Most builds use no-code tools and the AI assistant you already licence. Anyone who is comfortable with a spreadsheet can build something useful in a day.

### How is this different from an online AI course?

Online courses teach the tool in general. This trains your people on their own work, in person, with someone at their shoulder when they get stuck. Each attendee leaves with a working build on a real task rather than a certificate, which is why the habits last after the training ends.

### Which AI tools do you train on?

Whatever you already pay for or plan to. Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini for the assistant, and Power Automate, Zapier, Make or n8n for automation. We are not tied to any vendor and will say plainly if a simpler tool fits better.

### How many people can attend, and where is it run?

Up to twelve per cohort, with one trainer for every six people so nobody waits long for help. We are based in York and run sessions in person at your offices across Yorkshire, including Leeds, Harrogate and Sheffield, in Manchester and the North, in London, and anywhere else in the UK. Larger organisations run several cohorts, one team or function at a time.

### Is AI literacy training a legal requirement?

Not in UK law. In the EU, Article 4 of the EU AI Act has applied since February 2025 and asks providers and deployers of AI systems to take measures on their staff's AI literacy; the wording was softened in 2026. UK businesses that sell AI-enabled products into the EU, or use AI whose outputs are used there, may be in scope, and UK GDPR still governs what staff put into AI tools. Records from each cohort help you evidence both. Take legal advice on your own position.

### How is this different from the free government AI courses?

The free courses on the government's AI Skills Hub are worth doing. Many take under an hour and give people a sound grounding in what AI is. They are online, general and individual, so they rarely change how a team works. We often set one as pre-work, then use the build day to turn that grounding into a working tool on each person's own job.

### Can we pay for it with the apprenticeship levy?

Usually not. Since April 2026 levy funds can pay for some short apprenticeship units, including AI units, but only when delivered by an approved provider against the unit standard. A bespoke in-person build day is not one of those. Some clients use levy-funded units for a few managers and a build day for the wider team.

### What happens after the training?

Every build has a named owner and a one-page note. Six weeks later we check which builds are still in use and what the team wants to build next. Some clients then run a build programme to get one tool into production, or bring us in to deliver a larger piece of automation alongside their team.
